Antique French Walnut Oil Vessel – 19th Century Earthenware Cruche
A beautifully preserved antique French walnut oil vessel, dating to the 19th century and traditionally used for storing huile de noix in the rural regions of Dordogne and Provence.
Hand-thrown in warm-toned earthenware, this piece features a softly rounded, bulbous body with a narrow neck and gently pinched pouring lip. The rich honey-brown glaze has developed a natural patina with light age-appropriate crazing, enhancing its authentic character. A single curved handle provides both balance and classic provincial charm.
Originally crafted for daily use in a French farmhouse kitchen, the vessel’s form was designed to preserve walnut oil by limiting air exposure. Today, it makes a striking decorative accent—perfect styled on open shelving, a kitchen counter, or as part of a rustic European vignette.
